We’re happy to welcome Ivania Carballo Hinchey to the NWTRPA team as our Membership & Communications Manager!
Ivania was born in El Salvador, she graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in Social Communications and then moved to the UK, where she completed a master’s degree in International Relations. She has worked and volunteered for organizations such as the United Nations, Pan Am Sports, and the UK’s Women’s Equality Party, specializing in communications and policy.
Ivania has traveled around the world for fencing competitions, including the Pan Am Games and the Youth Olympic Games, and lived in different countries. After she met her now husband – a born and raised Yellowknifer – she moved to the North, a place she now calls home.
Camping, paddling, canoeing, snowmobiling, and northern lights hunting are some activities Ivania enjoys in the NWT. She also plays in volleyball and squash leagues and plans to start a fencing program in Yellowknife soon.
Recreation has been essential in Ivania’s life. Thanks to it, she has been able to meet new people and different cultures and learned about recreation’s great benefits for mental health and physical wellbeing.
